NEW YORK ARTIST AND ENDOMETRIOSIS ADVOCATE
Kyung Jeon’s artwork and her story of pursuing her dreams as a New York artist in New York City and a woman who lives with endometriosis have made her the subject for photographers and creatives alike. Jeon is a main figure in a documentary film titled Below the Belt about endometriosis and the social justice issues surrounding the disease, directed and produced by award-winning Endometriosis Advocate Shannon Cohn of Endo What? She is also one of the subjects interviewed for the book The Doctor Will See You Now by Tamer Seckin, MD., an Endometriosis Specialist.
PAINTER
Based in Brooklyn, NY, Kyung Jeon is a Korean American visual artist working mainly in the painting medium. She is best known for her whimsical gouache and watercolor paintings of children in fantastical narratives. She made her debut in Chelsea, New York in 2004, with her first solo exhibition titled “Chang-nan minor.” She was selected for the ARTSPECTRUM biennial exhibition at the Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art. Since then, Jeon has held numerous solo and group exhibitions across the world, as well as museum group exhibitions in Seoul, Korea.
DESIGNER AND DIRECTOR
Jeon is also recognized as a web designer, and has worked on various projects such as NY art galleries, high schools and universities, and not for profit organizations. She is the Business and Projects Director of the creative services studio, Somos Arte, which she runs with her partner Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez. Also known by her married name, Kyung Jeon-Miranda, she created the La Borinquena Grants Program as a response to the devastation of Hurricane Maria which hit Puerto Rico in September 2017. To date, the La Borinqueña Grants Program has awarded $165,000 in grants to grassroots organizations based in Puerto Rico from the funds generated by her partner’s benefit anthology graphic novel titled Ricanstruction: Reminiscing & Rebuilding Puerto Rico.
